Historic Valdosta (Valdosta Heritage Foundation) has partnered with the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s Revolving Fund to find a new owner for the Wisenbaker-Wells-Roberts House, Valdosta’s Oldest Home. As many of you know, the house was deeded to Valdosta’s historic preservation non-profit organization in 1999 and, after extensive restoration, experienced a detrimental fire in 2011. While much work has been completed, including a fire suppression system, the decision was unanimously made by the Board of Directors, along with the descendants of the family who donated the house, to find a new owner who can respectfully renovate the property. Upon the home’s sale, the Georgia Trust and the new owner will enter into a Reserved Conservation Easement and Rehabilitation agreement that will establish timelines for the full rehabilitation and protect the property from inappropriate alterations. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation will retain a legal interest in the property to ensure the proper rehabilitation, maintenance, and preservation in perpetuity.
